Re: Gotta Love 20 Minute Mud!

Yeah, I second that...nice work and presentation.

20 min mud made me good coin when I started out. It's the #1 most indispensable tool for b.s. jobs.

It's the only way you can tape, sand, prime and paint in 2 days. I used to make min. $500/day profit, clocking out by 2 or 3 in time to beat traffic.

THANKS 20 MIN MUD

Great job. If you use 45 and dropp plaster on your hawk you can excellerate drying and do less mixes.

So your saying mix 45 minute in a bucket. Then customize w/ plaster each pan or hawk load to drying time desired. Interesting. What kind of plaster?
And what are the ratios.

PS. I use a pan for doing the mud work. And the hawk in the picture I use for texturing.

Thanks A.W., No I used regular bucket mud (green lid) for the texturing.

Yeah the Tuna bags come in handy for lunch. Alot less messy than the can. The Teriyaki tuna one is my favorite. Oh yeah, I just tried the Sweet and Spicy, very close second to the Teriyaki.

Re: Gotta Love 20 Minute Mud!

I experimented with 20 minute mud for fixing up some of my own little things an electrician might mess up. I found out the hard way that 20 minute mud, when mixed with warm water, is more like 30 second mud.

Re: Gotta Love 20 Minute Mud!

Yeah that's a nice finish. I hope the HO reflected their appreciation with a nice big tip.

We only have 90 minute setting stuff (apart from regular) here in the UK (or if there is any then they're keeping it well hidden). The stuff we use just isn't much good to finish over. If you roll anything over it, primer or paint, it just comes off in a sheet. First roll over is fine but when you come back again with a second sweep of the roller it just skins up and wraps around it.

We have to put a finish coat of regular over the top or it turns out a disaster.

I like diamond plaster ( because you can smooth set compound after the fact by pulling a dry knife over it) but plaster of paris works as an accelerator also. What i do is mix 45 to taping mud thickness and load plaster (about a handful ) to desired thickness. If you have a patch to float let's say a removed window. Mix a bucket then load your pan and drop plaster in the pan. Mix with 5" knife and apply it should set i ten or fifteen minutes. The mix in the bucket will still be fresh and ready for the next coat which should be a cross sweep for better fill. If need do again but at this point you should be ready to top with light weight or mid weight compound. The ratio varies depending on the amount of plaster used and the softness of your mix. You adjust that to your needs just remember the later mixes will need less plaster because the 45 will be setting up
