Re: Going Rate

what size board? How many? Ceilings? Walls? ceilings and walls? Glue or no glue? What thickness board? How high are the walls? What's the ceiling height? 16 or 24 oc? how many corners? How many outside anlges? What kind of cornerbead does it get? In a nut shell, there is no "going rate" per say. On a 1 story ranch containing maybe 200- 4x12 sheets, with the standard 8 ft. ceiling, and a few sticks of cornerbead with no window wrapping I would say $15 per board for a quality job.

Re: Going Rate

In the OKC market I am hearing $7 a 4X8 board on the whole house...or a .25 cents a sq/ft basically...and this is rocked, taped and bedded, textured at that price, and I promise you we don't do it for that. When the boom dies off here, these huge crews of rockers will be gone,a nd the price will come back up.

Dang! Not a rocker per se here, but seems way off for a legit business.

Re: Going Rate

How can legitimate business do a job for that price????
I pay my guys around that rate. My earnings on a given job are equal to what the hang makes than the finish too. That's without me even on the job per say. Plus every owner has to make something on the materials too. I wish in a way that drywallers needed a state license in every state. That goes back to the home depot throwing around figures of the old "$10 a sheet" thing. With all the changes in modern construction It's really hard to give a "going rate" per sheet. I say we all stick together and ban discussing what people should should be paying for their services. If someone comes into the boards and sees this $7 a sheet talk it hurts us all. .......Damnit that's how rumours get started....LMAO. I say we stick together on this one my fellow drywallers...NO MORE GIVING OUT COSTS.....it should be banned !!!!!!!
Their is power in numbers.....As of today....my price just went up.....how about yours? We are letting others determine what it's worth......I say the Buck stops here !!!!!!...LMAO

Re: Going Rate

going rate here in CT is around $30/board to hang and finish 4x8,
$45/ board to hang and finish 4x12

probably different than other states though, so it would be better to just ask a "rocker" in your area

Re: Going Rate

Yes I say anywhere from $30-65 a sheet. The do it yourselfers are really turnimg this going rate thing into a "set in stone" cost. I agree though......$30 a sheet to hang and finish is workable in some situations. Now if a do it yourselfer hears that though, they assume that's materials too. So DIY's-- IT's NOT $30 a sheet for everything........simply to install and finish in some circumtances. Materials are extra.

Re: Going Rate

I know of a small house here that has had all the walls removed and replaced with new studs. Heheh, not sure if that is good or bad for a drywall person. I have never done a whole house, and might see about getting the job. I do not doubt my ability to do a good job. Might be worth it to me to do it at $20 per board labor as a time study for myself, if I could get him to go with 8' for the walls. That would run him a little over $30 per board as the board is almost $10 per for 3/8 or 1/2" ae Lowe's. With tax, the board is a little more than $10. This would give me and idea of what my rates should be if I decide to do more rock.

I hear ya, King! If I was more experienced and well known for drywall work that would be more inline with what I would try to get if it is anywhere near what is being chrged around here.
Here's the deal. Guy is redoing his old homeplace for one of his kids. He is a leutinant* (don't have time to look it up) on the local police force. Raced in the same hood. He replaced all the studs in the house. He has told people that I am a damned good painter. I'm thinking an introductory price for him to help get my name out for drywall and painting. Kind of dangling a carrot in reverse. He is also an electrical contractor doing his own electrical. We all know what can happen to copper wiring if it is not covered quickly sometimes. There are benefits to having someone else cover this while you do your day/night job.

Re: Going Rate

Actually, for all I know, that may be out of the ball park here. One reason I have not mentioed it yet. Seems Like I heard something about .55 here. Not sure what included.
