GC Used My Low Bid And Gave It Away :-<
I bid on the Firestation #24 in Palm Coast, Florida. The day after the bid I talked to the Assistant Estimator for Southern Building Services at 1165 East Plant Street, Suite 9, Winter garden, Florida, 34787. I understand from one of my suppliers that they gave the price to "a friend".

You could always bid the next job too low and hope they pass your numbers on. That'll teach them!

The thing is that there was such a big stink about using the community to build the community. The name of the darn place was "Palm Coast Firestation #24". Our company name is Palm Coast Masonry and Construction...so how freakin more communal than a freakin company with the d#!*# city name in it. We feel like writing a letter to the county.

Re: GC Used My Low Bid And Gave It Away :-<
A GC is not required to take the low subcontractor bids. If the GC was the low bidder, a public authority is usually (not always) required to award to the low GC. We had a highway bridge here where there were 3 contractors $30 million lower that did not get the job because of the very important design/build requirements. The high bidder stands to make possibly another $20 million bonus because the job is so far ahead of schedule.
I know of many masonry subs to do not give the same price to all GCs and even do not quote some. The reason is that they do not think it is worth the time and effort when they won't get the job anyway and their price will be shopped. Because of this, they frequently bid high to some GCs, so the competition does not know their prices. Dealing with GCs is part pricing and part selling how you can make their job easier and cheaper in the end.
