Furring Strips Under Plank Ceiling?
Gentlemen,
Doing a gut and restore project. For the ceiling, I usually do the usual - expose the joists, then new furring strips and drywall. But this place has something new for me - a plank ceiling hidden under a layer of paperboard. 1"x12"x10' solid wood planks nailed up to the joists covering the entire ceiling area. I have no desire to rip it all down. This is on the second floor, so above the planks is the attic insulation. Question is - screw the drywall directly to the wood planks? (after making sure they're secure) Or would you go ahead and add furring strips anyway? Thanks. |

if the planks are secure and straight, (not cupped, edges hanging down etcc). rock over. why remove, unless of coarse you are doing alot of lighting, hihats .....

Re: Furring Strips Under Plank Ceiling?
Exactly what I was thinking, but wondered if someone might have compelling reasons not to. Thanks.
