Excuses Drywallers Make......

Well, I thought maybe we can humour eachother a little. I can't tell you how often I get a guy working on a 4 day project and 3 days in he splits?? LMAO. Now, why they do this will forever be a mystery?? I've Heard it all from Alien Abductions, to Dead Parents -yet somehow 2 weeks later their parents are risen from the dead!! Anyone got any amusing stories??

I like the ones who can't work after dark becuase they have a restricted license, the ones who can't work but a certain amount of days because they are either on work release or house arrest.

I used to get the ones that state that they have been drywalling for 20 years and show up late ( because there is no bus route to where I am working )with no tools( they were stolen from their last job. )

Re: Excuses Drywallers Make......

Before I came to the job I'm at now, they had brought in another guy, he worked 4 hours and then took off. He left all his tools and everything, they tried calling him for a week but no answer. But it works for me cause I got the job and the tools too!

Easter is no excuse......

I can see guys not working on Easter, it is a holiday especially for christians. We don't work on Sunday anyway, but if we did we would still have off.

I even give my guys Good Friday off as a "floating" holiday. They can take it, or they can use it later. Most just take the long weekend, 2 of them worked, but it was a mild day.

I am not saying you are running your business they wrong way at all, but it is a holiday. I can't see them getting in trouble for taking a holiday off.

But I did call them in the morning saying like...." hey if you can come in today and put in a full day I'll pay you half your rate". Alot guys thought I meant double pay......I said no.....I will pay you 1/2 the amount as usual. I said "who else is gonna let you work on easter".....lol?

1King just hit the jackpot!! I've heard some good stuff, but the moon? License suspensions, revocations etc. I was formerly a State Trooper, so its awesome when these guys come in and make an attempt to talk about what the judge did or didn't do, or their buddy couldn't drive ad infinitum ad nauseam, and they look at me like they want me to believe this stuff ! Off the subject just a bit: I worked with a 17 yr old. girl at one time and she ACTUALLY wanted to drive her car to EUROPE!! Okay, whatever.

FORGOT his TOOLS?!?? Man I wake up in a sweat some nights thinking I left my tools on the job! Guys like this make it impossible for drywallers to get any respect. And the 2 weeks part says drinking and/or dope problem all OVER it.

Re: Excuses Drywallers Make......

I did a basement job- started march first, 1100 square foot. 1 bedroom, a bathroom full, full wet bar, full movie room- in 24 days. Drop ceiling too. Working I dunno 17 days on average. The home owner went out of town and we had a 500 dollar bet that 2 guys would be done by the end of the month. Well we finished 6 days early! Tongue and grove 3/4 inch 5 inch wide pine walls. I don't really take days off and work 7 days a week. Normally I put in 10-14 hours a day in. 10 of them actually working then 4 on the computer drawing something up or doing electrical prints. Like now it is 1:46am for me and I am doing a 1800 square foot addition take-off that I need to get material prices for tomorrow by 8am! Well back to work for me. Got to love being 20 years old and only sleep 3-4 hours a night!
