Drywall Finish For Window

I am a carpenter, and not a finisher. I would appreciate some advice. I have installed a window (Pella ThermaStar) with half-round top that came with attached painted wood jambs. Wall finish will be slick finished drywall. I have some plastic corner bead that I know I can use- cutting through one side every few inches. My wife would like to to keep the wood jambs as the finished surface, and so has suggested that we cut off all but about 1/4" of the jamb side of the corner bead, and not apply any mud to that side.

Thanks,

Mike

Well Mike, it seems like the answer to this question would be right up your alley, if you really are a finish carpenter.

Buy the radius trim.

Yep, and the home centers have the pre cut plastic corner bead for the radius. I would recommend using the 3M spray adhesive. I overkill it in some opinions by spraying the corner bead and drywall and let set until it's tacky and then respray them both so it's good and stuck...

Hi Mike,
so what is the question you have? Instead of a sheetrock return to the unit, she wants the return to be the painted wood, correct?
Would be best as another posted, buy the precut & glue it on then finish just the wall, install your wood jambs. The bead will give you a good edge.
If looking how to go about this is your question, It would be finished, (carpentry wise) the same if you wee finishing it for another to drywall. The hangers needs something to screw his rock to regardless if rock or wood return.
Take some strips of luan, 4 or 5 strips, glue & nail them together to form it to the radius of the window, wide enough to allow for your jambs to go in after.
Hang your rock, cut following the form, install the bead and mud as needed, then install your jambs, caulk & paint.

Oh, send wife out to lunch with the girls during happy hour, she will return praising your work and all will be good.
