Did This Guy Rob Himself Or Me?

last year we did major work on a house, all the walls were faux finish plaster and the ceiling was popcorn, the house is about 2100sqft. this guy came in slick over all the walls and then orange peel them, he also remove all the popcorn and knockdown the entire ceilings, charge only 2500$ , i brought all the material. was that a good price or i lost big time.

He said that's what he wanted, and you paid it. I'd say that was a fair price. It seemed agreeable to both of you at the time. You're sounding an aweful lot like a homeowner.

Soldz, you seem very concerned about getting the best value by reviewing your posts. Are you aware of how much money you are wasting by not using energy efficient light bulbs? I can get you some great deals on light bulbs that will save you a ton of money!

Whats fair? What did you charge to the job? 2500 sounds like a bargain.
Honestly, stop fishing here to beat up on your subs, everyone has to make a living.

Re: Did This Guy Rob Himself Or Me?

not beating up on the sub i was thinking the sub under bid the job thats why i ask him if he sure that the price he wants for the job several time, think it should be more. when you rob someone it comes back to you, 2 weeks ago i brought some pavers from home depot(550sqft of pavers at $1.51 each paver. i paid and took them with me the same day, 4 days later home depot called me to pick the same pavers up, even when i tried to tell explain that i already have them, they insist that i was wrong because the computer shows i never pick them up. i told her take them home as a gift from me because i was not coming to get them. home many of you would have return to pick them up. i am a very honest guy, not saying that you guys are not too, but i dont like to rob people.

We did a pole barn job years back where we converted it into a flower shop. I neede the insulation done asap and could not get a co. to come do it. I asked a drywaller buddy of mine if he wanted to do it for cash. He tried telling me the price over the phone without looking at the job. He told me $100. I said, you have to look at it first, then tell me a price. He comes out and tells me $150 I said " whatever dude, are you crazy" He says $150 plus 30 for gas. I told him $250 and shut up.
After he did the job he had wished he would have charged more than the $250. Imagine if I would have paid the $100.

Re: Did This Guy Rob Himself Or Me?

See that quote I took outta context there?..........We shoulda known. The Home Depot is involved once again.......LMAO
Evertime there is a "situation"......that damn home depot is involved.
Something tells me The HD gave our dear friend some advice perhaps??

On a serious note though, the price you got sounds reasonable. The bottom line is this, shop around, get other quotes, than go with "your best deal". We mentioned on here over and over, there really is no simple way to estimate/approximate what things should cost. What comes easy to 1 contractor, might be difficult to another. Or maybe 1 contractor needs the work and the other doesn't. I charged $750 on several occasions for a roll stomp knockdown, with a floral around the ceiling fan in a 12x12 room. I gave the customers exactly what they wanted. It's all about "WHAT IT's WORTH TO YOU". Don't worry how much money your tradesman made on you......just know you got what you wanted, when you wanted it. Good Luck and God Bless

Re: Did This Guy Rob Himself Or Me?

Why does someone have to be getting robbed? I agree that you sound like the typical "I want it for nothing" homeowner Soldz. People always think that when work is done either they got shafted or else they need to think that the contractor lost his a**. Isn't it possible that they gace you a fair quote, did their work they way they were supposed to, and life goes on happily ever after? Not in the "homeowner mindset."

Re: Did This Guy Rob Himself Or Me?

Rule number 1.......don't worry about what the other guy made off you.
As long as you made yours and everyone was happy.....it's a good deal.
I cannot tell you how many small insurance repairs I got into where we started at 9am and by 1100 we were done.....WAY FASTER than I expected and I charged over $1000 for the ceiling or wall repairs. Most people like it when you're done quick. I would never milk a job for the sake of making a customer feel "as if they got their dollars worth". You wouldn't do it to a plumber-so why a drywaller? I had a plumber come to my house once....he charged me $400 bucks for multiple drain issues....although he was done in just over an hour and I seen his materials were minimal I WAS HAPPY!! so I could care less "how much he made". I was satisfied.
