Densarmor

hey guys, i'm getting ready to do another basement job and I have offered paperless drywall before as an option but others didn't take it. This couple is saying they want it. I have about 48 sheets to put up, walls only, the ceiling will be a zero clearance ceiling using tiles.

my biggest concern, is how the finished surface will look like. I am having my finisher finish the boards but they customer asked if they could have a separate price for painting everything because it's basically a play room for their son down there, with a small TV room, and they wanted to save some money. so I don't want to leave them with a board that will show all the seams of drywalls mud after it's sanded and the rest of the board looking textured. I also don't want to have to have my drywall guy skim 48 sheets of this densarmor either.

now that it's been out a while, is there a special primer i should tell them to use prior to painting that will help smooth out the texture?

I have used it in the past but only behind like toilets in bathroom jobs or in other areas where you really couldn't see the finished texture. I never noticed it being horribly rough, but not sure how it would look in a big basement with lots of lights.

thanks!

on edit, can you use normal green/blue top joint compound? it says on the GP website that densarmor cote should be used, but doesnt say it's the only thing that can be used to finish.

Re: Densarmor

Durabond, or any setting compound.
They are more mold resistant than
bucket mud.
I prime with Cover Stain and 3/8 nap,
finish coat with eggshell and 3/8 nap,
no problem with texture showing through.
This last bath that we finished the
HO went ahead and used glossy
and it still came out ok for a HO job.
