Re: Cracks!!!!!!!!!!!

There should have been some mesh or burlap cast into the cornice, But what is a internal cornice joint? I have never heard that one before,

Re: Cracks!!!!!!!!!!!

Kind of like the intestine of the cornice??? Small or large? Small, use a small tube of caulking, large, use a big ol' tube of caulking. Throw in a little deer urine to make the caulking stick better to the cornice.

Re: Cracks!!!!!!!!!!!

Repair cracks in old cornice? or prevent cracks in newly fitted cornice? if it's new cornice joints cracking a day or two after fitting then try wiping/blowing the dust off the cut before glueing, or it could be glue drying too quick. If it's cracks in old cornice then turn a blind eye and say thats the painters job .

Re: Cracks!!!!!!!!!!!

I was talking about new internal cornice joints.

Even if you dust off the joints before glueing etc, the dust will again appear. Try this..... dust off as you say really well, and then with your finger wipe it along the cut joint and the white chalky dust with easily reappear.

What caulking do you use then? Usually a general caulking will not stick to a dusty surface.

So what is..... X-Crack by Strait-Flex???? Is this a caulk or glue?

Re: Cracks!!!!!!!!!!!

Wipe with wet sponge, allow to dry, then prime, then caulk.

Post a picture so we can all understand what you are talking about re: "cornice joint."

X-Crack is a material used under drywall to absorb movement and prevent it from transferring to the drywall joint.

Bestest answer yet! Don't use non-flexible caulk to fix a crack seeings how something's already moving.

Re: Cracks!!!!!!!!!!!

the best way to prevent cracking is to tape properly. never apply too much mud within the inside corners. use proper flushers for every coat. first coat use a 2 inch applicator. second coat use a 3 or 4 inch applicator. If one applies too much mud within the inside corners, your almost certain to get cracks. never over heat the compound or this may corupt the finish result, resulting in cracks. allow the compound to dry in resonable conditions. always use the same brand of mud for the same coats. i have used hamilton finishing for the first coat and sinko for the last and found out that sanding the compounds may result in an undisired effect.
