Corner Beads, J-mould, Etc...
Hey guys..
I've seen many posts with guys asking the going rate to hang and finish board. Most of the responses were about what to charge per square foot of board. My question is, is there an extra charge to supply and finish corner beads, J-moulding, fast mask, etc... Or is that all included in the board foot price? Also, how consistent is the rock you guys get. I live in Canada, and there are so many times I've had to deal with stuff like: sheets that are 47 and 3/4" wide (which becomes a problem doing a 100' long wall), the bevels are proud on the board side (not the edge of the board, but the edge towards the fat of the board, you have to go heavy to hide this), roller marks on the the board from the manufacturing process, etc... The drywall we use up here is manufactured up here. Have you guys encountered any of these problems. Thanks for your input!! TheWorx. |

....I usually include the bead in my price unless its excessive, then I count and add in. ....never had dimension problems w/ sheetrock, but i have had the roller lines you speak of. ....also had one job where the board came full of blisters.

Re: Corner Beads, J-mould, Etc...
I believe on the one job we had a real poblem with the width of the sheets, we were supplied with CGC Sheetrock (5/8" 12 foot). We were doing about a 100' long fire wall 25' feet high. We usually stand up the first layer and go horizontal on the second. When doing the first layer, after three sheets we had a hard time bending the steel stud the catch the screws. After that, forget it. We ended up cutting the next sheet at a fat 32" and going a full sheet after that, and so on down the wall. Not a huge deal (It's getting covered with another layer anyway) but, cuts into your time.
CGC sheet rock also seems to have a real hard bevel and is almost impossible to sink a screw in steel without spinning out. Used it on wood framing and seems to be OK. As far as the proud bevels and roller marks I've found that it's Westrock who are the culprit. They have a plant right here in Winnipeg. I like their board better than CGC but it takes extra taping to hide the imperfections of their board. |

Re: Corner Beads, J-mould, Etc...
Here in ohio I had some issues with "less than desirable quality" board just how you described. My finishing crew discovered it after the entire unit was hung (about 300 sheets). I contacted the supplier and the builder...got everone together and explained our options. 1) tear it all out and replace it (EXTREMELY COSTLY) 2) just skim the entire project. we chose 2. I got durabond in buckets, had like 5 guys using paint rollers to apply it to wall and we skimmed everything (wiping off against the lines in board) Presto...it cam out perfect and only held us up an extra day and a half (and I got paid for it).....AS FOR THE BEAD....usually I only begin to look at charging extra if it exceeds like10-15 bag of durabond. Also whether it is up high or low - hard or easy to do. Good Luck
