Re: Coating Boxes..

I just bought a full set of Drywall Master from all wall. The boxes are pretty identical to the ames and tape tech only silver in color. I don't think you need the power assit unless your on stilts trying to run the flats. The bigger boxes may be nice, don't know never tried them. I just make more mud to keep going, usually 5 or 6 buckets at a time and full throttle!

Thin the mud a little more. Is the box broke? Or buy the Mud Runner. I want one but it's about a grand

Re: Coating Boxes..

You know on my box it was the same, had to push the hell out of it to make mud run, my co-worker figured it out, but you have to get on scaffold to do the upper corners, just pinch the box with you hand instead of used the force from the handle, its really not bad I use the handle to steady the box and squeeze it with my other hand, then I blade it light. Re: Coating Boxes..

HI Al-

We bought a complete set of Columbia tools from All-Wall(allwall.com) They are amazing and the fat boy boxes are very nice. We have 8,10 and 12. 2 corner finishers and two pumps etc, etc. great tools.
The corner finishing boxes take a bit of practice. You have to apply enough pressure as you place it in the upper corner to get the mud flowing and only then start your stroke down to knee height and then the same back up from the floor to knee height. If the mud is to thick you will have aching arms at the end of the day. Try a bit of machine oil on the rubber gasket every day before you start working to get the diaphragm nice and slippery and then give it another shot at noon if the box is sitting for a while.

Re: Coating Boxes..

Don't let the mud get hard. I know I know.

When it happens, open and scrap out with knife and then use a high powered nozzle on a garden hose. Scrub brush and patience.

I use only 40 minute mud or higher when I use it in tools.

Re: Coating Boxes..

I always presand my angles the dust acts like a lubricant. Thin your mud down a little more and check the angle head. It may need some lube. lube the rubber gasket a little, it'll run a lot nicer. I more thing when I have deeply recessed board which is more often than not I run the 3" head to fill in the recess to avoid call backs. Hope I"ve helped.

Re: Coating Boxes..

I have the bead boxers and the only place I will use them is on over head ceiling bead that is getting textured.- and only if they are long runs. I personally dont like them. Far to messy because I use thinner mud in my boxes and I like using thick mud on my bead. Also you still have to take a knife or trowel to them to get a nice corner and finish.

I always wipe behind the boxes as well. I find it gives a better finish and takes out any pin holes.

Mason drywall is a good place to buy anything,I bought all my auto tools from him,Real nice guy,Very helpful.

I once was looking for a 12" curved trowel and I asked him to just look down the curve of the trowel and not to send me one with too much of a curve and he ended up sending me 6 different trowels for me to pick from and also sent me prepaid postage to send the ones I didnt want back.

well 4 jobs later, the corner boxes work well, I can never go back to pan and knife now..... the corners need to be 90 degrees or close, that what's I found,
if they are way out the glazers doesn't leave mud right. I use spray silicon on the gaskets wich helps and the joint mud has to be right thicknes.
