I have yet to see what the end result looks like but I'm still puzzled by it, is this common?
It's not common. I did however try it in my house as an experiment in 1995 in one corner of my bedroom and it lasted 11 years with no cracks. How I know is that I sold the house and moved next door and I'm friends with my neighbor. They remodeled the house and I looked at the corner before they started and there was nothing wrong with it.

I'm not saying to caulk inside corners, but it did work in my house for 11 years for some reason.

One part of me was thinking "that ain't right" but at the same time I couldn't think of a good reason not to do it....

Caulk is more flexible then mud...but I'm pretty clueless about such things.

weird but it seems like it would work if the the hanging was real tight. i think i will stick with taping the corners.

Re: Caulk The Corners?

Yes it's very common.

You will see all unskilled dry-wallers and DIY'ers doing this after they struggle with inside corners.

Most don't know to hit one half of the corner first and go back to the other half the next day. After failing miserably Chaulking seems to make sense.

I like to pro bead (paper faced metal) inside corners. Takes almost all the skill set out of it and makes for killer cut lines for the painter.

Re: Caulk The Corners?

I'm not sure if there was any sarcasim in the past posts.

There is skill of course in install paper beads. But if you watch a master drywaller install inside corners they make it look easy.

I have tried and tried and can't pull it off.

But with the probeads we take our time 10' at a time and don't have to worry about taping half the seem at a time.

With a little practice those inside corners will look like a pro did them.

Setting the outside corners with pro beads is another matter. Much larger learning curve.
