Re: Box Combos

If you set your boxes right you should only have to run a 7" and 10" box. I know I'll catch flak from this-but I can't argue with sucess-I've been doing this for 15 years and have not had 1 complaint about joints showing.

Re: Box Combos

I use a 10 then a 12, but have really been kicking around the idea to go with an 8 and a 10 just to see. I also have knives drilled onto paiters brush extenders on a pole and wipe the ceiling after I run my boxes.

Re: Box Combos

I go with the 10 and 12 because I prefer to bust out the butts wider and get the hollow side full with the first box. For the seams (IMO) it really does not matter which combo you go with.

Speaking of boxes, who here has to have someone wipe behind their box because they can't do a clean job on their own?

Re: Box Combos

I use 7" box with setting compond over sheetrock mesh then wipe with 12" knife on a pole (keeps it back flat and helps force thru meshtape), then 10" box opened out thick with air dry topping and wipe it with the 12" knife to get rid of air pocks, then 12" box (very thin coat) with air dry topping....Finished....no wipe down....But thats just me.

Hey Brock...I hear ya man.

Side note it seams my area IA is behind the times in inovative tools. We don't get them like the rest of the country. I have to make my own backer boards, no one here has even heard of them.
Thanks a bunch

Thanks!

Why do you hillbillies waste your time putting so much mud on the walls when you're just going to sand it off?

These speed tools have been around for nearly forty years. I remember having a guy demo some to us in the late sixties.
You will absolutely love them when you buy them. They are the greatest thing next to sliced bread like they used to say...
Seriously, the boxes will save you so much time. The bad thing is you will just feel like you can work more. You'll be working twelve hours a day because you'll love them so much. They are a great investment and the learning curve is low. Just mantain the blades and shoes and they will last for years. The next hurdle is deciding which kind.

Re: Box Combos

Another fan of running the 10" with lots of mud followed by the 12"

Run the 10" on each side of butt seam and trowel in between later
