Bazooka Help
i have been doing drywall for 12 years now and was taught to tape with the banjo and hand finish with knives. although recently i started subbing from some guys that told me i needed to try some tool finishing so i bought a set. I love the tools just i am ha ing trouble when i try putting in my top angle with the bazooka the tape always pulls out of the corner about 2-3 inches. does anyone know why this is happening and how i can prevent it. thanks

Re: Bazooka Help
I always start my tape in the verticle and let it out just until I can catch it with the crimping wheel. Then I put the tape into the horizontal, leaving about an inch over hang that can slide out when running. When the tape meets the corner where I want it I let go of the crimping wheel for about a foot then carry on. It takes some practise , but you will get the hang of it.

Re: Bazooka Help
Oh forgot to mention. when running corners your mud consistancy must be almost perfect. I found that if I mix my mud a little thicker than I use for flats It works out best. Less drag on the tape and flushes evenly.

Re: Bazooka Help
just start with about two or three inches of tape already out... when you get to the end if it is still to long hold paper and pull on bazooka till tape is in right place.. very easy!!

Re: Bazooka Help
Thats some good advice,
Most of the drag comes from one or two things, I find, either too much pressure with the crimping wheel, or a dirty tube. I always tape my butts and flats, then my up and downs (vericals), then if there is water on the job, I will go clean my tube before I start the top angles, this makes it so much easier (for me). I am also an old banjo head, and I have never seen anyone hit a threeway as clean with a tube as with a banjo. but you can get pretty good with practice. Another tip that may help, I keep a wet sponge (cut a little bigger than the tube) in the end of my tube, this helps keep the mud from crusting in the tube, and it also lets me know that the plunger is up, before it bottoms out, helping to keep the mess down on the head, when you put it back in gear. |

Re: Bazooka Help
Depending on how long of an angle you need to run just mash some extra tape into the corner before you start the run. With a little practice it will become a no brainer. Also sometimes if the tape pulls away from the corner after the first foot you can push the tape back into the angle using the tube.
On backs of tight closets start on ceiling and work into angle. The sponge in the end of the tube help to keep you from overfilling the tube. I have not broke a cable in years since I learned the sponge trick. Doh, now I'm jinxed...
