Welcome to the site....good to have you
...remember...Peladu is your friend.... Bazooka’s …….. you can buy those now? I thought that those were only for rent and couldn’t be purchased. I was told that lets say ten years ago, has it changed? EDIT: So Nathan, how am i doing with the welcoming committee side of things? |

Re: Automatic Taping Tools
If he pay'd 4g's for a bazooka he way over payed....
I can order a new Columbia Jumbo Pro Set from a company in Kirkland , Wa....... for $3499.00 with free shipping... But I'm not interested in spending that much yet.. I'm just looking for decent used tools... I could even work without a Bazooka.. I would really like to get my hands on the boxes and a pump.. Thanks for the reply |

Re: Automatic Taping ToolsQuote:
yeah we live in WA tax is 8.9%. So you think he paid to much? In a boom time working used tools are hard to come by for a good price. I have been trying to get a Hitachi nail gun off ebay for two weeks. The fools on there keep jacking the price to what I can get one at the pawn shop for. Even the guns that need work done to them are going for rediculious prices. The pawn shop is selling those one's for 70 bucks. Not on ebay. Last edited by JustaFramer; 01-22-2006 at 08:48 PM. |

Re: Automatic Taping Tools
If money is an issue (I know, when is money not an issue in this trade). I would just go rent what you need for tools from Ames. I know renting tools sucks, paying for things you don't get to keep, but take the extra money you are making now that you have made the move to "Tools" and put that aside to purchase your own set.
Just a thought. Joe... |

Re: Automatic Taping Tools
I am already looking into renting, the closest place for me to rent the tools is about 1 hour and 45 minutes away from me so its kind of a pain. I am interested in used tools if anyone has something kicking around.. Thanks

Re: Automatic Taping Tools
Just remember that these tools do break down. If you are renting do you have to take them in for repairs? My tube (bazooka) will always break right as I start to tape an entire house. Which is why I have a toolbox filled with replacement parts and etc. for fixing in the field. My tube is only 2yrs old and has been through 2 or 3 cables many cutter blades and a creaser wheel and the filler got bent when I tripped over a small heater. Just something to keep in mind. BTW if you have the means I suggest checking out the mudrunner from tapetech it is a tool that makes me smile...much better than a hockey box. My latest price on a tapetech tube in NE was 1250-1300 iirc. Nate

Re: Automatic Taping Tools
From the sounds of it you're doing everything by hand right now. I too have looked at getting a Bazooka and all the boxes. But maybe, if funds are tight, try picking up a banjo. I used to hand tape everything, but even with a Banjo and a good guy swiping tapes behind you, you can make pretty good time. Probably increased my speed at setting tapes by 75%. I also have the columbia corner tools which also increased my taping speed. It might be a cheaper option until you get more money coming in.
I have rented the Ames tools but I don't only do taping (I paint and do the finishing carpentry as well). Which means I have maybe three weeks between taping jobs. I've used Ames tools (Bazooka, boxes, corner tools, etc...) but if you tape a place in three days and go to return the tools, they automatically charge you for two weeks of use (up here in Canada). What they charged me didn't work out with the time saved by using them. If you're taping everyday and that's all you do, I know quite a few taping contractors that swear by Ames (they service the tools and the rental fee is tax deductable). Other than that, if you have any "Buy and Sell" publications in your area, keep an eye in the tools section (many times I've seen a complete set of taping tools pretty cheap). Who knows, the guy might be going out of business, getting divorced, etc... But I have seen some good deals in those ads... |

Re: Automatic Taping Tools
Always check ebay. As far as a budget goes....pick and chose. Alot of what you pay for is just name brand. Check out All-Wall.com I would call any place that sells new equipment. This stuff really holds its value so alotta places sell used too ,,,,you just gotta ask. Good luck.
