Where Do You Start With Stone Veener?

When you guys do stone veneer do you start at the bottom or the top? The guy i used to do some work for started at the top. I have seen others start at the bottom.

Is there a right way?

I have done it both ways. Starting at the top keeps everything cleaner, but starting at the bottom is easier for filling in joints as you go. When you start at the bottom you can lay your bed joint on before you stick your stone. I guess you could starting at the top is well by buttering up your stone but ... Im tired and mumbling.

Ledgestone is usually from the bottom up for me, while field stone is top down... there, I said it.

Depends on what stone is laid. I try to start on the top when doing columns.Dry stack ,i always start from the bottom, Alot of us masons get "Stone blind" . To keep production flow ,I start where ever pieces continue to aviod cuts.To me, theres no right or wrong way to start ,It really depends on the mason and how high he's going.

Corners first, from the top for grouted veneer, from the bottom for drystack.
