Want your opinion on these pillars
OK my Stone Mason friends, what do you think.
These are my pillars we are doing at my house so I have some pull with the owner Driveway is not big, but I don't like the looks of those tall thin Driveway Pillars. So I made these 32 x 32 x 36" high. Plus there will be a 2" cap and a light. Total height to the top of the light fixture will be 48"
Do they look good at this height or do I really need to go taller with stone?
Check out the Mason Picture post for my other walls.

There will be a 2" bluestone cap, you think thats too small?
@ gene, Thanks, Thats what I felt. Especially since the cap and light will give it more height.

I think at least 4'" maybe 6" with matching overhang. Do a mock up and see.

full 2" bluestone would look good.
Are you going to make the two level with each other? It looks like your driveway slopes a little. I would make the finish heights equal.

Yes to both.
I don't much care for the overhang look as previously mentioned, but if 2" looks too small I was thinking of stacking another 2" on top of that maybe 4" smaller in width to give it a 2" set back and 2" stepped up appearance.

I think a 2" cap would be fine with those pillars. Like ckarl said, I would make them both level with each other.

I agree
CJ is right got to make the two finish level with each other I think with that width you need to go taller. 4' maybe if you put a big potted plant up there. I would go 6' then lights on top that way when somebody like the war chief walks up the drive the lights are not right in their eyes. But if it was my column and I'm building two at my house too. I'm putting the lights on the face so the lights shines up and down the face. The light gives off all the stone definitions. looks cool. And you need a thick stone cap, 3'' thick would be the ticket

Lights on the face work better. On top the column blocks the light from the path. They also tend to shine in your eyes. If you keep them on top keep the column short.
