Wall Footer Picts?

Hi all. I'm wondering if anyone has any picts of wall footers that show construction detail? Are you guys just digging, pouring, and building the wall to an even height? Or do most of you run forms and screed for the footer?

More specifically, I have a radius wall to build with a footer 3' to the frost line. I was thinking of running a form just at desired grade and using the trench as the side walls (pouring against the soil). Any good picts that show a set-up like this? Or advice on how you anchor the form?

There are some good pics in here somewhere, but this isn't the engineering section.

Its just a 2.5' doubleface sitting wall. Footing is bigger than the wall.

This is how we soil form footings, though often if frost footings they will be lower in the ground.
The white paint spots on the sides of the trench is where we drove in rebar grade stakes,(shot in with a laser), so we have the correct final grade of the concrete.

The other way we do them is to form the edges with 2 X 4 and dig between the forms to the specified depth. I am sure to have a few pics of that if you need them, just ask.

Good stuff Tom. Thanks for sharing. If you have time to post picts of your other method, I'm interested in seeing it. Are you just floating by hand to get to the grade represented by the rebar stakes? Any advise on how you would handle a radius footing, or which method you would use?

Yeah, we hand float the top of the concrete if it can be reached, on deeper footings we just tap it with the come along to get it pretty good and flat.

I have done some radius footings in the past and I just lay 'em out and dig 'em. It's best if they are deep, a lot easier than forming the thing.

If I had to form one, I would buy some of the PVC trim board and use it to make the radius, stake it on grade, and dig the rest out by hand.

Don't hold your breath,,, these pics were from 2 years ago, and already loaded on this site, so it was an easy post. But we'll see.....

Re: Wall Footer Picts?

Tgeb, I logged on tonight to ask a similar question as Captain and a few of my questions are already answered by your posts. I am building a raised patio out of cinderblock for the first time and had a few additional questions. (I have a lot of experience with interlocking pavers and segmental retaining walls, but not with cinderblock). I have performed my excavation and have a level soil level. I was intending to place wooden grade stakes every 5' or so to level the concrete. My main question is: What about rebar? Do you place a length or two of rebar long ways throughout the entire foundation, and / or any sticking up out of the concrete? I live in SE PA, to give you an idea of our weather conditions. This will be a raised patio coming off of a house. The walls will be approximately 2-3' tall. Stucco is planned for the walls to match the rest of the house. Any advice is appreciated.

Rebar, yes. Rebar, put in every third block, with the bottom 12" of the bar in the footer and the length to be as tall as the wall.
