Tapering For A Chimney
Hello! I have to say that it's been some many years since I worked on a chimney. I'm building a house and we ran into a question about the chimney that I wasn't sure how to answer. I hope I can make this make sense:
The damper on the chimney is 36 inches but the flu opening is 13 inches; so, we need to taper the chimney from 36 to 13. What is the angle/degree of taper and how high do we need to go with it so that it will be stable? Also, should I put in firebrick above the damper through the taper? Thanks so much for your help!! |
