Stucco Over Block?
I have a concrete block wall surrounding my patio, (see photo), i want to stucco the verticle surfaces, i also would like to embed random pieces of slate in the stucco. i also want the stucco to be colored, not yet sure of color. what process should i use to create this finish, my mason recommended
1- rough coat of stucco, embed slate at this time 2- some kind of mesh 3-colored finish coat of stucco any other options, should i just use grey stucco, then paint it? thank G http://

Re: Stucco Over Block?
First, get some soaps (1-5/8x8x16 or 2-1/4x8x16 or even 4x8x16 solids) to cap the wall.
Next, stick your slate with thinset (make sure the total thickness of the slate and thinset is less than the total depth of the stucco. That is, if your stuck slate is 1/2", your total stucco thickness will need to be at least 5/8"). Follow with a scratchcoat and then your finish coat, and consider an acrylic stucco for the final coat. After further review of the photo, I would probably case the bottom edge of the stucco.

Re: Stucco Over Block?
Not at all, if that is what you are going after. Casing bead is a metal edge that you would nail to the block. If provides a clean edge, and in your case a control joint where the wall meets the floor.

Re: Stucco Over Block?
scratch coat, brown coat, then finish coat; could be either conventional or synthetic.
