Stihl Concrete Cut Off Saw Question

Im looking to purchase a Stihl cut off saw, probably a used unit off of ebay, how reliable are these units? Should I looking into other brands?

Question, will the 14" blade be enough to cut into sidewalk slabs and curbs? Or is the 16 necessary?

Thanks

Re: Stihl Concrete Cut Off Saw Question

14" is a good all around size. I wouldn't buy one used though. I've burned through one a year for the last 8 years. The best one I've used is a Multiquip...and I will be buying another Multiquip when this one craps out.

Re: Stihl Concrete Cut Off Saw Question

We have a Stihl TS350 and have had it for about 10 years now. It still works great and has been very reliable, in fact just used it Friday to cut some 12" ductile iron pipe. And will be using it Monday with the Cutquik Cart to cut some pavement.

A 14" will cut 4", but no more.

Re: Stihl Concrete Cut Off Saw Question

I had 2 Partner saws and rued the day I bought them! I finally threw them away and now I have a Stihl and 2 Makitas and like them both, the Stihl seems to have more balls but I like the balance of the Makita. I would spend my money on either again.

Re: Stihl Concrete Cut Off Saw Question

i really dont want to buy new, its 1 of those things you use 3 times in 5 years. i have to make a couple of cuts now and thats it.

i also notice parts seem to be easy to come by with the stihls, rebuild kits. etc...

I got a really tight ts350 off ebay a couple years ago. I asked about compression and starting before I bid. Guess I was lucky

Yep, buy the blade, rent the saw if you only use it a couple times a year (just don't forget to take your blade off when you or your guys return it).

Re: Stihl Concrete Cut Off Saw Question

lI have two stihl a 12 & 14 we use the 12 most of the time. Most slabs are 4" or 5 " even if the blade dosent cut all the way thru you can bust the last 1" or so , curbs I cut from the top and front and break the back. The 16" blades cost much more then the 12. I had a 14" for about 20 years and it walked.

I've had a stihl ts400 for about 3 years now. The same saw! IT works great. Still idles perfectly after it warms up for a minute. And its called a nazi saw around here.

Prime 5 times. Choke on...NO THROTTLE.Crank 5- 7 times. Choke off. Crank again with NO THROTTLE. Should pretend to start. Throttle and crank.

Be sure that the Mix Ratio is 50:1.

If this method fails, check spark.

The first time the saw is really dry.
take the spark plug out poor about 10 drop of gas in it and the saw should start up at the first pull.

Re: Stihl Concrete Cut Off Saw Question

Ours Stihl has always started on at least the second pull.

First make sure you have spark. Then make sure you are not flooding it. do you smell gas when you are trying to start it?

Then make sure the air cleaners are clean. There will be 2 of then a outer and a inner.

And last if it still won't start and you don't really smell gas out of the exhaust. And if it was sitting for a long time unused, then the carb is probably gunked up and need to be cleaned.
