Sealing Llimestone?

I did a fireplace today and the HO wanted to know about sealing the limestone hearth. I said Im not sure and that I havent seen anyone do it and it really shouldnt be a concern. I also told them I'd find out about it since they seemed like they really wanted it sealed.

I know its pretty porous, but anyone have any ideas? Any product to recommend?

Re: Sealing Llimestone?

six,

one thing a sealer will do for soft limestone indoors is keep it from rubbing off on clothes. Look in the tile department of your favorite big box--should be several to choose from.. Test on a scrap piece, or inconspicuous place on the hearth, and follow directions. Most of the top line sealers today are water based, so smell is not a problem.
