Question

Seal?

I am looking at a job that will require the construction of a catch basin on top of a concrete floor. The option is either concrete poured or concrete block.
I would prefer concrete block. I have heard that there is a gasket material that can be put between the lower row and the floor to provide a water tight seal but I can find no info on same.
Anyone know of this product?

It will be a 2 row 8" wall 100 feet long with 6 corners, longest wall 23'.

Thanks for any info on this.

Re: Seal?

I'm no engineer. but I would lay the block, rake out the bed joint and put in a bead of butyl. What's going to keep the block itself waterproof?

Re: Seal?

You are probably thinking of bentonite. It comes in rolls for applications something like yours. I have not used it in years, but look into that. Amazing product, but it's expansive properties can limit it's use. Check it...

Re: Seal?

I've done a few in slaughter houses and I always go with a pool sealer...just stop at a pool supply or lowes and check them out. water proof and tough and also reasonably priced, you can apply it to the inside face of the blocks and be done with it
