Salt Attack!

Got a problem.

How can you stop staining and salt attack in masonry/brick work? You know what i mean, when it goes white.

thanks

Re: Salt Attack!

It is not salt attck and it is not a stain.

It is called efflorescence, which occurs when you have moisture in the wall and it deposits salts on the surface as the moisture evaporates. It takes moisture and soluable salts.

To eliminate efflorescence, don't get water in the masonry. You can't eliminate the salt (usually calcium carbonate. etc.).

Efflorescence will decrease with time. It is an indicator that there is moisture in the wall and it is coming out.
