Reclaimed Old Cobblestone And Brick

Has anybody used a product like this before??

http://www.historicalbricks.com/cobblestone.html

Looks like they've got some gorgeous products. The cobbles I'm sure would hold up just fine, but look at the vintage reclaimed brick. How do you think they would hold up in a freeze-thaw climate?

I have seen a beautiful custom home in Enid, Oklahoma that used the Chicago "reds". Great look.....but pricey.

Tommy -

I looked for the "vintage reclaimed brick", but could not find the specific product. Was that just a geral class you use for grouping?

You cannot tell anything about durability from a web site except exterior appearance. The pedigree and previous application probably means more.

price is high, i have looked into it, the more patina and beauty, the more cost.

I would want to see a LARGE number of those cobbles before I bought any.
There can be a HUGE variation in used cobble.

Re: Reclaimed Old Cobblestone And Brick

I actually just finished a job in downtown Seattle (commercial building) where the materials (100 -120 year old brick) were supplied. It started out as a small wall, turned larger wall, turned even larger section because the owner really liked the way it looked. The problem I had was the brick came from two separate suppliers, which then came from 3-4 different homes. The heights of the brick varied from 2 1/4 to 2 3/4", the lengths varied by almost an inch, and of course some were so banana shaped it was a mess to lay.

The owners are happy, which I guess is the most important thing, but to be honest the varying lengths and the ending affect wasn't worth the premium (in my opinion) the owner's paid which was around a dollar a brick.

Other coast and that seems to be the going rate for a good, old exterior brick. genecarp is right about the patina and the xtra $$$ people will shell out and not bat an eye.

Yup, I was just referring to the brick street pavers. I contacted these people...the brick pavers are roughly $7 per square foot and the cobbles are roughly $12.

CJKarl - I know there are a LOT of people in our markets that would shell out for these types of products.
