Re: Quite

The masonry forum isn't that quiet... it was only added within the last year.

Re: Quite

Damn, you scared my stacker. Im actually finishing up a couple houses. I'll post some pics. Nothing special.

Funny story for you though. My helper/tender/apprentice and I were building some 16x16 columns on a porch with a highlighted running bond arch. About 8' tall with a small gable over the top of the arch.

Well, I had plumbobbed (sp?) down some droplines and made some marks and squared things up. He helped me with all this so he "knew" what the marks were for and what went where. We got all the way to the top and were going to throw the template up and turn the arch and I noticed something was odd.

I dropped my 4' cricks down from the gable to check the depth from the face of the wall, and sure as **** he's OFF!! He's off by 2 1/4". The exact thickness of the brick. ( We were laying pavers vertical btw, which sucks some serious ass)

Well the dumbass had put the front of the brick to the lines on the porch we had marked out instead of the back of the brick on the line. So he was off by exactly the thickness of a brick!

So we had to tear the whole thing down and rebuild it. I guess its my fault for not watching. I was to engrossed in what I was doing, and figured he could handle it. I mean, it was all marked out right?

Regardless, I told him I wasnt paying him for the first time he built it, or the time it took to tear it down.

He agreed. Rant over.

Re: Quite

That is nothing, I had a guy lay split faced block to the face and then tell the job superintendant that our block varied by a half inch in size, that is why the interior looked like crap. No back charge for you!

I haven't read this forum for a couple of weeks for 2 reasons.

We just had our first baby, and my computer decided to succumb to a lightening strike.

Sorry to hear your woes sixstringer i will call you soon as promised (next couple of weeks). We are just finishing up that monster block foundation I was vexing over a month or so back.

It's looking good.

Good to hear. And congrats on the new baby! It seems to be going around on ContractorTalk. The wife and I are trying for one right now. Well, we just started really "trying" on Monday.
