Re: Pricing Stone Walls?

All depends on how tight you want the wall and a bunch of other things.

Re: Pricing Stone Walls?

$25 sf sounds like a lot to me. I pay about $12sf for cultured stone material included, and about $12 sf for real stone labor only. East TN/SW VA prices.

$12 for cultured stone.... materials included! Way to low how do you stay in buisness. For ground level work 20-25 per sq.ft is competitive in Maryland for real stone and $9-12 for cultured stone labor only. Scaffolding the material up can increase the cost by 25-35% more.

between myself and my other mason(who is slow but getting better)and one laborer,we can do 300 sq ft of adheered veener.now at 3.00 a foot, that is 900.00 labor.i pay out in labor 25.00 an hour.8 hour day,$200.00paid out.....in my pocket for my labor, wear and tear on my equipment,gas...$700.00.i can live on that.
for natural stone.we can lay about 100-200 ft,depending on the type of stone.on the short side of $10 a ft,thats 1000-2000 a day with same labor costs going out.
i think i can eek out a living with that.

i can understand why you guys would have to charge more.
here in my part of oklahoma gas is 3.21 a gal and diesel is running 3.91 a gal.
overhead costs are a lot more also.wages paid to your men are more than i have to pay here, housing ect...

Stacker;
I tried your numbers for work in our area and came up with this rough idea

300 sq. ft.@ $3.00 ft labor only-------------------------------$ 900.00

two masons @ $20.00 ea. per hr. 16 hrs-------------------------320.00
one laborer @ $15.00 per hr. 8 hrs------------------------------ 120.00
Matching taxes & insurance ------------------------------------ 170.00
Overhead, equipment, repairs,rent& permits/licenses--------------125.00
Gross profit $ 165.00

I guess your production rate is based on a straight forward job,
I know when it gets more difficult say higher or lots of corners
like a big chimney you will need more than $3.00 ft.
