Porcelain Tile Exterior Veneer

You know how you see a stone veneer on banks and what not? With people paying over $2/brick for a brick veneer, why not tile the exterior? What do I need to do to lay tile on concrete block, an ICF wall, a framed wall with OSB sheathing, etc.? Am I wrong to think I could sheath with a tilebacker, lay tile on regular mortar, and grout with epoxy? Let's say I want to do a ranch house with a hip roof with a 30" soffit all around. What is ever going to go wrong with my tile installation? My materials will cost me 1/2 what a brick veneer will cost, and you know it will lay up quickly.

I think the look of it for one would stop most people.

Not sure exactly how much you would be saving? You would still need to put diamond lathe down as well.

I've seen it on tv (news clips) in the middle east. Tile over concrete. No reason it shouldn't work though it would look quite unconventional here.

Over icf might be a problem because the substrate is soft.

Over osb would probably be a problem because it will flex.

Have you considered corn cobs instead of tile? You could just glue them up at a nice savings.
