Plumbing A Brick Column

I have a customer that has a brick fence. I am tearing down the fence between the brick columns and putting up a decorative wood fence in its place.

One of the columns is leaning due to a tree root that grew under it. I have not looked at the columns up close yet so I do not know if there is a footing under them. The tree has been removed and I need to get this column plumb again.

I am planning on digging out around the column, plumbing it and pouring a new footing under it.

Any advice or suggestions?

I suppose it is worth a try. Everytime I try something like what you described I end up building a new one.
How do you intend to support the post as you pour the new footer? If the total height of the post drops a couple of inches, will it be obvious to a casual observer?

I would porbably warn the customer that a new post may be necessary if something happens.

Not sure this is any help, but ...

The column heights vary already as this fence is probably 50 years old and some seem to have settled a bit. I had envisioned supporting the column with 2x4 braces but I do not know how realistic that would be. I do not have any experience with this type of situation and I may call a mason to sub this out but I would like to get a few ideas here first.

Thanks

i agree that your best bet would be tear it down and replace it.
