One Coat Ok On Dry Stack Cinder Block?

Just build 3 planter boxes using light weight cinder block (2high). Planning to stucco these but not sure if doing the 3 coat method is needed. As it is now the cinder block surface "looks" like a 2nd coat finish. Thinking of just applying one coat stucco and texturing it. Think I will have problems with adhesion?

You would have to use surface bonding cement.

One coat is OK, but 2 will hide the joints better. You should also add some integral waterproofing, again to help prevent the joints from showing through when wet.
