and i my pe&^r touches the ground.no way in hades could that be done, unless the mortar was spread and the brick already laid on the wall,so the mason would only have to lay it to the line.even then i dont think it could be done.

That is the difference between possible and probable as I tell my kids when they ask about silly things:

It is possible that a Monkey will fly out of my butt, but it ain't very probable....

What do you mean, in the sewer business we can lay all sorts of bricks in no time. Mind you, its in a circle, the bricks are made out of concrete, and the only tools required are a shovel to move mud, a pair of rubber gloves, and a brush to smooth things up a bit. Who would have thought raising manhole lids could be so easy?

Did I miss any ties to the back-up or weeps at the bottom? It was hard to see because of the resolution in the photo.

It should be no problem for two bricklayer and one labor. To lay 3,000 bricks on a
straight wall in a 8-9 hour day.

"should be" ?

How about quality good enough to perpetuate the masonry industry?

Are you in it for today's $$s or the future of your work?

Substandard construction is the pathway to a smaller market and a bad reputation.

I laid 2950 kings in one day, had 4 windows, and one door. I had my brother that was a bricklayer hoding for me, he knew how to setup everything. I was moving nonstop. I couldnt doit probably today, Ive wore my shoulders out, but here's one for you, my brother layed 1850 blocks 8x8x16 in one day, on a block foundation, we had all the leads up so he just had to pull a line. Was 5 courses high. Yes, we lay our stuff straight, I find very few masons that can work for us cause were to picky.

Yeah pretty much toothing out the corners is the norm around here. It was just me and my hody.

I bricked the entire side of a house, about 1500 ks in my younger days, 35' to 40' run one story in less than 8 hours. Kicker is, I mixed and hodded my own mortar, built my own scaffold and stocked it. No help what so ever. And it looked good. NO SH*T.

My dad laid 3200 mods one day with 1 hod carrier and 1 spreader. And it looked good. NO SH*T.

My dad has a guy working for him now who laid 4500 ks in a 12 hour day with 1 hod carrier and 1 spreader. Guy's an animal. NO SH*T

I only laid 4,001 bricks yesterday( normally at least 5,002) cos the hoddy didn't turn up with a hangover till 10am and had to mix my own mud. The architect also put a niche in the middle of the wall and cutting the briicks really slowed me down.

I made up some time by only taking one and a half hour for breakfast down the cafe and only 2 hours down the pub for lunch.
When you tell people this they don't beleive you, that's the annoying thing.

Watch the comments or this thread will disappear. Not so much what is posted, but what we know will be coming.

FWIW, I will tell my brick guy that he is a slacker....he needs to pick up the pace.

Where you from Stu? You almost sound english. Be the first time i heard anyone from US say Cafe or Pub lol

But talking of brick walls, there's a 4.5 mile long and about 8ft high brick wall that surrounds a manor house down the road from where i used to live in the UK. Would love to know how long that took to build.
