Mildew On Brick...

I have a customer that has a list full of things to be done around her house, one of which is to clean the brick in the font of the house. It's a small area, around 150 sq. ft of brick patio. In random spots, there is mildew forming. I don't own a power washer, so I don't want to waste money on renting it for just 30 mins of use, PLUS, I do not want to "hurt" the brick. I'd rather just use an agent and scrub the hell out of it. My question is what should I use as far as a cleaning agent is concerned? Remember, I have to get rid of the mildew, PLUS, I want to clean the brick off too. Another concern is all of the shrubbery surrounding the brickwork, I don't want to harm them in the process.

Zinnsser's website only recommends using it on painted brick.. What about using an oxygen bleach based product?

eaco chem makes a product called saferestore with long enough dwell time it kills mildew on the spore level, (most products kill it on the surface level) which means it has longer lasting results guaranteed to keep it gone for at least 3 years under normal conditions. it also does a great job cleaning the brick. its also safe for lots of other surfaces as well. just prewet the shrubs and make sure u do a follow up rinse and you should be fine.

make sure you prewet the brick as well seeing as saferestore is an acid. basically just make sure you follow the directions. they also have a thickened version as well, it does such a good job you may not even have to scrub. by the way gloves are a good idea too.

You could always try baking soda. Very old but effective.
