Actually, I suspect that the arch is real stable. Only thing that could bring it down would be for something to run into it. Gravity is a mighty good cement, and never developes cracks. There are mortarless arches and bridges all over Europe and else where -some have been in use for hundreds of years. Dry walling is a real art form that is like so many other things, going away. Anyone interested, google the Stone Foundation web site, and look through some of the past issues of stonexus magazine. Some stuff in there that will blow your mind. Last issue had an article on those balanced stone "towers"

That arch is stable vertically, but not laterally. You will not see a hundred year old arch anywhere with those dimensions. The piles would fall over if a soccer ball hit them. Still cool though.
