Leveling With Concrete

i have an upcoming project in which i have to level a 20 x 20 room that is way outa level:2". i will have a concrete company bid on it and do it. it is a concrete slab with tile on top of it. im thinking it could be scarified and iron meshed and then poor concrete on top. is this proper?

Re: Leveling With Concrete

I thought you would get more input from the concrete guys on here, so I didn't chime in. I can tell you that regular concrete used as a topping of anything less than 4" (3.5" nominal) will be a bigger mess thanyou have already.

Find an up to date mix formula for that specific condition (if there is one) or, tear it out and start fresh.

Re: Leveling With Concrete

What you are proposing is not a good solution...there are floor leveling products out there, but using concrete isn't an option, even if scarified. Why not do it right and do it once?

Re: Leveling With Concrete

Don't cap with 2" of concrete. Gypcrete and other floor levellers are available

What is the head room? Can you afford to go up higher or must you break it out and start over?

Re: Leveling With Concrete

plenty of headroom. i didnt realize that pouring over it with concrete would be terrible but now i do. are the floor levelers mentioned worth it if the floor slopes 2". im not trying to be half ass, just trying to learn a little something before i talk to the concrete companies. not to mention not having to tear up all that concrete if there is no need to

Re: Leveling With Concrete

I have capped several different slabs over the years, and so far i don't know of any problems. I have done this on inside and outside concrete. Don't pur the concrete any less than 2" thick. Use a small limestone mix or pea gravel mix, and use fibers. This should work fine for you. If you have the headroom, cap it.
