From Left To Right

Do right handed layers naturally lay more coming from the left going right. What's a good brick count per mason on 7 hrs. Any input is welcomed.

Re: From Left To Right

Most masons I see who are right handed lay from left to right.

Brick count depends on many things. Type of brick, what kind of work you're doing, and how good your tenders are.

Re: From Left To Right

depends. when I was an apprentice, w/ mostly right handers, I had to start from the opposite end wich made me just as efficient both ways. working on leads w/ lefty's is cool because we would build the leads & switch sides & run the wall in our regular direction. I find an average amount to be 7-800 on cut-up stuff & 1000-1200 is a good # on straight runs. But like 6string said, it all depends on the conditions. Brick size, type & charactoristics of the brick. Most of all, your laborer. Is it just me or do the laborers suck more as time goes by? When I was a laborer, I tended a handful of masons & still had time to get on the wall & learn

Re: From Left To Right

im a righty and lay from left to right, unless i am laying sills, rolocks,or soldiers and the it is right to left.

as far as brick count goes,i tell everyone that asks me how many i can lay a day,ALL I CAN GET MY HANDS ON!!.
like 6 says,it all depends on what you are doing and what you are laying.i have laid as many as 1500 in an 8 hour day and as few as 200.i would say i average about 900 a day.

speaking of brick count i want to give a shout out to a fellow okie brick mason, who finished 3rd in the spec mix 500.jeff neely a mason with ADVANCED MASONRY in okc laid 729 brick in one hour.
its ironic that this years winner and last years winner laid the same amount.791!

Wow thats a brick in less that five seconds. That must have been a thing of beauty to watch. are there any youtube or google videos of competitions like that? I don't even think i could throw bricks that fast up a six foot section of pipe scaffold.
