"I Thought All You Contractors Are Dying For Work"

I have a project going on an upscale community. One of the neighbors comes over to my project and asks for a price on repairing their chimney. So I go over to their house several doors down. I took a look at it, pulled out the ole calculator and gave them a quote:

HO: That much????? I didn't think it would be so much.....

Me: Your chimney is shot & needs to be rebuilt from the roofline up.

HO: "Yes, I understand, but why so much? I thought all you contractors are dying for work"

You ungrateful bastard. You were already in the neighborhood. I bet you used your regular markup even though you were right there next door.

I am disappointed in you.

Hey, ease up, when you give an estimate you have to get your price,,, because everything you do for that guy will be based on your first quote. If you start cheap you will have to stay cheap.

Re: "I Thought All You Contractors Are Dying For Work"

I had an estimate 3 weeks ago gave them a price of 6800 for the job.

They called back and said if we pay cash could we get it done for 4k.

IT took everything in me not to tell them yes ,but I need the 4k up front so my guys can blow through the work and have everything on site. Get the 4k and pretend that I did not know them.

It's like that in Illinois & Indiana.

I was minding my own business cleaning up from the latest snow, stocking, etc., when this broad came over. This is my second job in this neighborhood with a third already booked on the schedule.
