How Far Out Shall I Rough In My Wall Faucet?

I get conflicting answers and get tired of the song and dance so decided to see what you guys have to say about it.

I secure my wall faucet / frost free hydrant / sill cock very securely on the back end. Is there a certain measurement that I should figure on for how far the outside of the brick is from the wall? Or do brick and/or masons vary too much for me to just use the same number every time?

Also, is there anything you guys wish the plumbers would do to make your job easier when it comes to wall faucets?

Will the inside surfaces be finished before the brick is laid? If so, maybe give some play to your interior. The brick will have to be cut around it. Someone will still have to secure the outside though.

I think he wants to know a standard dimension for brick + air space. I can tell you that for my work, it depends on how plumb the wall is. If I see 1" out of plumb (which happens too often), then my thickness will be +1" at the base.

From the face of sheathing/waterproofing, it is 1" airspace, plus the width of the brick, which can be from 3 to 4 inches. Plus or minus an inch for foundation and framing issues. Your best bet is to stub it long.

Re: How Far Out Shall I Rough In My Wall Faucet?

as a rule i ask the carpenter to put my brick receiver at 4 inches for a king size brick, and 5 for a mod.that is figured from the sheathing, what ever that would be.
i also like a little play in the faucet.
