From Home Run To Ground Rule Double.

"It's ready", says the GC, so I get the material dropped and schedule the job. I get to the jobsite, and the hearth (lower left) has a 3" gap where they removed the floor hearth granite. The Cultured Stone is only 2" thick. The PM is on vacation, but calls me back. His answer is to use the left over 1/4" hardi-backer to build up the face an inch.

First off, I have laying tools with me, not framing tools, and second, it ain't in my scope of work. Most importantly, the hearth stones won't allow any overhang if the front face of the hearth is bumped out. His call not mine. So it will double my setup/cleanup time. I will still make good money but , jeez, this was a one day deal not an ongoing project. Just venting.

Vent away. Not only is it a pain to move it, but everytime you touch a block it chips, cutting production even further.

I'll take one closeup without the flash. You can't see them in person.
