Help Me Choose A Fireplace Stone.

I'm trying to decide between two fireplace stones for my new house. Which do you think looks better; the Wisconsin Ledgestone (1st image), or Wisconsin Mountain Rubble (2nd image)?

Admittedly, this is a little unfair because one home is decorated and the other is under construction, but please try to ignore that.

Re: Help Me Choose A Fireplace Stone.

I honestly like #1 the best, only because I see way too much of the second one--the first seems to make the room "cozy-er"...the second is just a typical modern look, which to me (even being 27) is kind of plain

--but what do I know...I aint the pope...or am I?

Another homeowner Personally I prefer the more linear, ashlar look, that's what I specialize in.

I like the first pic, the ledge stone.

Looked for this over @DIY and didn't see it.

I prefer #2 because it is more random and therefore a more natural look. I think #1 looks too "manufactured".

Re: Help Me Choose A Fireplace Stone.

It all looks fake, but no matter what you chose it won't look like the model,it'll look like the gardener did it.As for style the ledge gives a more formal look while the rubble is more casual and probably cheaper.Either way if you're thinking about getting the face of your house done get the same guy to do both.Don't let the tract people that already screwed up your brick do it cause as easy as phony stone is to lay it can look like holy **** if done wrong. You'd be better off with drywall.

Re: Help Me Choose A Fireplace Stone.

personally i like the field stone better.the ledge rock is ok from a distance.
i agree with you tkle,if he isnt happy ith the brick job,he wont be happy with his fireplace, and you know the same mason will do it.

I would suggest the Random Field Stone in pic # 2. But if your tastes are more contemporary then go with the Ledge Stone.

Re: Help Me Choose A Fireplace Stone.

they both look good, #1 being more commercial looking ,#2 being more traditional, would look great with slightly darker or dark gray mortar with lightly raked joints to make the colors of the stone stand out more, so it isnt so plain looking
