Help With Masonry Results With Pics ?
This is an original section in good shape.
This is a section that's been pointed. Before After, this corner was pulled out and redone. So what do you think? Is it good, average, better than average? |

Re: Help With Masonry Results With Pics ?
on a scale of 1-10 id give it a 7.and here is why
in the second pic, where you show your tuck pointing, you didnt remove the root of the problem, the ivy. in the bottom pic,i see at least 5 joints that should have been filled, even tho they werent part of the corner you replaced. all in all it is a good job.

What you did is great, but as Stacker says (now that you have practiced), you can clean up the whole thing.
Good work and nice match. |

Re: Help With Masonry Results With Pics ?
Hey , thanks for the replys. I appreciate it.
Stacker, I like how you took the pic and circled the joints. What did you use for that? Those joints you point out are good and solid, maybe 3/8" deep at points, and dirty. Do you think they should be chiseled out and redone? I'll get that ivy off. |

Re: Help With Masonry Results With Pics ?
i saved your pix to my computer then went to paint and edited them.get rid of the ivy.i cringe when i see ivy growing on a brick wall.the ivy will find the smallest opening in a joint and the rest is history.
maybe it is dirt i am seeing but they look like those joints need retucked.

Re: Help With Masonry Results With Pics ?
I don't mean to hijack this (and I'm not a contractor either). But what method could you use to make the repaired area "match" with with tthe old area (that is still solid). I've read somewhere that you could make a "slurry" mixture - and kind of paint it on.
Is sealing the morter advisable ? Thanks - |

Re: Help With Masonry Results With Pics ?
you could also clean old mortar to make it blend better. I have used prosoco heavy duty restoration cleaner on jobs such as this. however i don't do any repointing yet. I mostly concentrate on cleaning, staining and sealing masonry & mortar joints.
