help find brick

I am in desperate need of finding a certain type/color of brick for a repair job on a post office. Anyone know where to start looking?

Knock out and grab a few brick as samples and go to your local brick dealer. He should be able to steer you in the right direction or come up with a close match.

if that is not possible, call your brick company and they most likely will send a salesman right out.but i agree the best would be to take a couple brick to the company directly.
also since you have a computer, get on the sites of local brick companies in your area....ie acme brick.com

Since this is what I do most of the day, let me give you some ideas.

First, don't expect me to come to your job to match brick when you need a couple of hundred brick. Bring the brick, not a picture, to me and I will help you find something to match or the closest available.

Matching brick from a picture is like picking a paint color over the phone.

If you only need a few, like a window infill or a damaged corner, look for areas of the building that are not visible. In older buildings, you can often get plenty from the attic spaces or from the interior wythes of planters.

If it is a veneer (i.e. modern) construction, search the grounds for bed borders, walkways or a pile behind the shed. Leftover brick are often left on the jobsite.

If you need a fair amount, but less than 10,000, you will most likely have to go with an in stock product. Find the closet match you can, in particular the exact size, then salvage and blend, rebuilding to corners or other visual breaks.

If you need more than 10,000 you can generally get a close match, given time and money.
