Golden Trowel Awards

For the second year, I have been in charge of our local contractors associations's Golden Trowel awards, dedicated to promoting skill and design excellence in the masonry trade.

What makes it notable this year is that the judges selected some very small projects as winners and runner-ups among the large commercial projects. I see this as a win for the little guy, and also as a victory for design on the part of the architects.

Here are 2 projects that competed against some very nice large commercial and won:

A simple little restroom on a golf course:

A clock-tower:

Keep in mind that these were up against premier projects involving millions of dollars worth of masonry contracts.

S! to the craftsmanship of the little guy!

Re: Golden Trowel Awards

Both are nice pieces of work! I'd be hard pressed to select one over the other. The context is so different.

Re: Golden Trowel Awards

They were in different categories, stone for the restroom and hardscape for the clocktower.

Re: Golden Trowel Awards

Nice clock tower. As for the restroom, I am surprised that an award like the golden trowel awards could overlook the amount of running joints and lack of bonding on that job.
