Glueing Manufactured Stone
I have a job coming up to do a zero clearance fireplace in a drystack owens corning brand stone.
The backing is cement board. Im wondering if we can just use a product like liquid nails or similar caulk tube product to glue the stone on to the cement board? I spoke with tech support guy from Owens Corning and they said they would not do that, but I have a hard time seeing why not. They wouldnt give a reason why they wouldnt, they just said no. Any ideas on this type of installation, or recommendations?

What do you mean moisture? Its inside a home. Where is there going to be moisture coming from on a zero clearance fireplace?
If not something like liquid nails, what about something like full flex?

Re: Glueing Manufactured Stone
The problem is that construction adhesive sets too slow. The rock will slide, and if it is drystacked will tend to stick fine until you have about 4' high done, and then want to peel off en masse'. Why make it hard on yourself? Thinset is your friend.

SIX STRING, Why don't you use a lightweigt thinset ? Skim coat the cement board first with the flat side of the tile trowel, this will push the thinset in.Then use a 1/4x1/4x1/4 trowel to spread the thinset. Then I always back butter the stone and push it in.Works well for me.And since it's dry stack, you wont have any problem at all.MM

Re: Glueing Manufactured Stone
Thanks guys. Thinset was what I meant by full flex. Just a brand we have up here.
I guess that would be the way to go. I appreciate the info!!
