Foundation Waterproofing?

Yes I have a 3 car garage to build well the back of the garage will be backfilled to 3 1/2' high. We will install a foundation drain but does the foundation also need to be waterproofed?

Yes.

This is in addition to the cheap damp proofing usually used it should be waterproofed if you are a goood contractor. It is cheap.

how about the sloping sides?

Waterproofing should always be applied on any foundation wall as well as a proper drainage system with proper fill such as washed rock. and its never a bad idea to compact the gravel also. as to avoid settling. Very important in areas which are subject to freezing and thawing...

A lot cheaper than water damage.

Re: Foundation Waterproofing?

I have a similar issue I'm working on. I'm building a concrete dome and the HO wants to berm/backfill (to about 4 feet) the south facing side of the house (in FL) to help cooling. I told him it's probably not worth the water intrusion headaches. Since it's a dome, there are no gutters so the roof water will run right down the sides to teh edge of the foundation...

If he persists, what product should I use to waterproof the wall? It's made of poured cement panels reinforced with wire mesh and fiber. I don't want to use tar and felt, since I've seen that leak too quickly.
