Question

Fieldstone Belowe Grade

Getting ready to build my own house. I plan on putting local fieldstone against the foundation wall so that it looks like the house has a stacked fieldstone foundation. I've been told that I should not run the stone below grade because the mortar will fail. Have I been told correctly? Is there a special kind of mortar I should be using? The location is northern PA/southern NY, so we get snow! Thanks

Re: Fieldstone Belowe Grade

Why would mortar fail where it is below grade? There would be thousands of buildings collapsing. If you do the work correctly there should be no problems. Snow or cold isn't a problem when done right.

Be nice Tscar.
