Expansion Joint Question
Bid a job that has one piece outside our normal realm. We will be epoxying some concrete patio decks on a highrise that will have new top coat of concrete on them (cap for regrading). we will have to grind a new expansion joint in them down the middle before caulk and epoxy. I am looking for help from you guys on the quickest way to do that. There is not a lot of room to get the big gas powered wheel up there so we are limited that way. So far a four inch grinder has been the best suggestion we have had. I was wondering if there is a router for this?

Re: Expansion Joint Question
I am just a tad confused. Is the concrete new? Or are you just grinding old concrete and doing the epoxy overcoat? If the concrete is to be poured, the finishers could put in a zipstrip, or groove it. Not usually the painters job to cut expansion/control joints. There are many ways to cut a groove in slab, if you're working on a high rise, somebody should have the right tool. Router? They are mostly for working stone, not really applicable, but check out Gran Quartz in GA....they have many tools of that nature.....good luck

Re: Expansion Joint Question
This is what I would use since I own one.
A Stihl cut-off saw and the Stihl Cutquik cart. |

Re: Expansion Joint Question
You need an edge for a router to work. You can score it with a Skilsaw or 4" grinder and then router it if you need a wider joint.
