Drawing Symbol and Color for Different Construction Works and Items

Hi Everybody,

Does anybody knows the difference in drawing symbol between concrete blockwall (section: 200 Height x 450 Long x 100 or 150 or 200 wide) and brick wall? Or Is it the same? In Mauritius, we use extensively 150mm and 200mm wide hollow concrete block wall.

Are there standard BS colors (in Drawings) associated with demolition works, loose works, new works, timber works, block works, brick works, concrete works, staircase, kitchen cabinets, furniture, Galvanized Metal Steel Openings, glazing, ironmongery, Flush Doors...

Are there standard symbol and color and linetypes???

Thank you in advance, a prompt and detailed answer will be much welcomed.

Nicolas.

In most systems, there are different shading or cross-hatching for brick than there is for concrete masonry. Color is often not used because of the problems and cost of reproductions.

Use what is common in construction drawings for your country. It is probably based on British or German/EU standards, unless it high performance loadbearing concrete masonry(not likely).

For references visit the National Concrete Masonry (NCMA) site - (ncma.org) and look at the TEK notes. You will be asked to identify an area, but you can select any state or producer to get the free access. This is a series of over 100 different current technical notes on masonry maintenance, design and construction. The design details will give you a good idea of what is common in the U.S., Mexico and South America and many other locations.

Thank you very much. I will check the link and will let you about it. Here we use British Standards. I can use color as the ink is more or less cheap here, depending on the printer brandname, usually as they come from China. The use of color and linetypes is great and cancel the confusion when there are too much lines in drawings. Thank.
