Deep Hole / No Pockets

I had a someone dig a basement for me. Instead of digging it about 4 feet deep. He decides to dig it 9 feet in the back and about 8 feet on sides with the front open. I then had the basement wall built 15 courses high. The questions is this , I was told I will have to fill the blocks and rebar to make sure that the ground pressure won't cave in the walls. These are 8" blocks. The soil is clay and shale .

Also was told to backfil with gravel appox. 40 yards gravel. Then backfill

Labor to backfill $900.00
Plus $ 800.00 for gravel

yes, you will have to rebar and fill with concrete. Here if you have more than 6' of unbalanced backfill you have to pour and rebar. One question I have is why did you only want your basement dug out 4'. When I do a basement house I typically go between 12-15 block depending on what floor sytem I am using. If using trusses I will go with 12-13 block. If using tgis I will go with 15 block, allowing me to run my hvac underneath them.

The lot is about 15 ft up from the road and it is atop of a montain that is 2684 feet up and overlooks a valley. I wanted just 4 feet dug into the hill , I should tell you the baement has a drive up gargage.
The cabin has two floors. Cssonstruct the property is about 60 miles from Knoxville near Spring City

gotcha. It will also be hard to look at your prices as compared to other people. Getting materials and machinery to your jobsite sounds a little more difficult than bringing it to the local subdivision.

Only 8" block ???

You better rebar and slush the entire foundation.
