Cultured Over Old Brick
Hey Guys,
Pretty simple little job, keeping me busy over the winter. Current fireplace surround is old brick with recessed/raked joints. I'm putting cultured on top. You think I should add an acrylic additive to the mortar? I used to use thinset over brick, but now my supplier told me that voids the warranty of the cultured stone. You think regular mortar would work fine? I feel I would get a better bond with the thinset. |

Re: Cultured Over Old Brick
Let me ask you this: What manufacturer warrantees installation workmanship and bond of their product? The answer is NONE.
Acrylic modified thinset or acrylic modified mortar will work equally well, since the difference is only in the size of the aggregate and speed of set (depending upon the additive).

Yea, that's what had me scratching my head there when he told me that. T, in your opinion, is adding an acrylic to the mortar overkill?

Re: Cultured Over Old Brick
Not on old fireplace brick, not ever really. It is cheap.
