Color Match Concrete

I have a customer who has a cement porch that has a small hole in it. She wants me to patch the hole but she is worried that the color difference will be to extreme. Does anyone have any special methods in color matching concrete? Can it even be done?

Re: Color Match Concrete

I can match paint by eye better than the machines, but I have never been able to match concrete/stucco with any degree of accuracy. The best you can do is find out what the range of cement colors in your area are (different brands), and then choose the one closest to the existing. The best way to match mortar or cement is to do the above, then after it sets, rub dirt into the entire area and rinse off.

Part of the problem with matching cement and mortar is that the color changes for a period up to a year, so which period do you want it to match? Match it fresh and it will not match in 6 months and vice-versa. Standard disclaimer on any patch/match I do is that there is no way to match it. If the match is that important, then it will have to be tucked/resurfaced to any visual breaks.

or polymer/acrylic modified cement overlay, acid stain, water based stain, epoxy overlayment, tinted high solids sealer etc.

Re: Color Match Concrete

I've had concrete color vary from load to load on the same day's pour.

I would never guarantee a color match. Too many variables.

Re: Color Match Concrete

Even in my countertops I dont ever guarantee exact colors.

I write down all my ingredients and always use the same amount measured out to the ounce, but there are so many variables in concrete that you can never guarantee an exact match.
